there’s no holding back here

We understand that switching from tampons and pads to a menstrual cup may be a daunting endeavour. However it needn’t be! And we’re here every step of the way to ensure you and Mina become the best of friends.

How are menstrual cups different from tampons?

Menstrual cups collects your blood rather than absorb it! It sits comfortably in your vagina canal and allows you to use it up to 12 hours at a time with leak free protection!

Why can’t my menstrual cup be inserted comfortably?

Firstly, relax and take a deep breath. Relaxing helps to loosen your vaginal muscles. When you’re inserting your menstrual cup, you need to keep it folded until it is inside of your vagina. It’s important to relax your muscles when inserting your menstrual cup, so find a comfortable position. You can lie down, squat or sit on the toilet.

Why am I having difficulties removing my cup?

Keep breathing and relax! It’s important not to hold your breath if you are pushing with your vaginal/ pelvic floor muscles, so try to breathe out each time. Breathing out with every push helps to decrease downward pressure and reduce strain on the pelvic floor.

Do a series of small, downward pushes with your vaginal muscles – lots of small pushes are better than several big ones.

It may feel like the Minacup is moving back up slightly after each push – don’t worry, this is normal.

These pushes should help bring the Mina cup low enough for you to reach the base of the cup or the stem; if so, release the seal by pinching the base of the cup and remove the cup.

How do I clean my menstrual cup?

Before and at the end of your use, you should always sanitize your cup by leaving it in boiling water for 5 minutes. Remember not to boil your cup.

I've never used a cup before. Is it hard?

It is super easy. Every woman’s anatomy is different; by using your Mina cup on a consistent basis you will learn what is best for you and in the process learn about your body.

Will I be allergic to the cup?

MINA is made of 100% medically graded silicon. It is hypoallergenic so it is safe for intimate use.

How long can I wear my cup ?

MINA can be worn up to 12 hours at a time, depending on your flow. It should be emptied and rinsed a minimum of two to three times per 24-hour period.

I have an IUD. Can I still use a MinaCup?

Many of our customers use MINA with an IUD simultaneously. MINA is worn low at the base of the vagina and away from the cervix, which means that it should not interfere with an internal birth control device.

How do I clean my MinaCup in a public washroom?

Simply empty your cup in the toilet and wipe with a tissue or wet wipe. Then wash your cup thoroughly when you get a chance to clean it properly.

When should I replace my MinaCup?

If your Mina Cup is ripped or torn, or the silicone shows signs of deterioration (which can happen after using non-recommended cleaners), it’s time to replace the cup.

Are there any special circumstances where I shouldn’t use my MinaCup?

If you feel symptoms of general pain, burning, irritation, inflammation in the genital area, or discomfort during urination, remove your Mina Cup and contact a doctor.

How much blood does it hold?

Regular size: 20-25ml of blood.

Small size: 10-15ml of blood.

Can I have sex with the MinaCup in?

No, Mina cup must be removed before intercourse. Mina cup is not a contraceptive nor can it protect against STIs.

Do I still need to insert my Mina in hot or boiling water between cycles?

Yes, insert your Mina in hot or boiling water for 3-5 minutes between each menstrual cycle to keep it fresh and clean.

Can Minacup leak?

You shouldn’t experience any discomfort or leaking if the cup is inserted correctly. Pinch the base of the cup and rotate it so it can fully pop open. Swirl your finger around the cup to remove any excess blood. We advice you to add a panty liner while you are learning to use it or on your heaviest days.

Is it messy to clean?

Using the Mina cup does require you to get a little more up close and personal with your flow, but it is clean and comfortable to use. It takes some practice and patience in the beginning, but once you master it, you will love the freedom that comes with using Mina. Be sure to wash your hands well before inserting and removing, as well as after you’re finished reinserting.
